WINTER IS COMING

Baby it’s cold outside! Well, depending on where you’re reading this from, it is. Winter is but a few short weeks away, but rest assured that it’s coming faster than anyone with a paid subscription to Rhyheim Shabazz’s JFF account ! Its that time of year when a lot of us make the mistake of sacrificing style for function. This makes sense in the grand scheme of things, because it's much better to be warm than it is to be cold. However, we don’t have to put function over fashion, which is why we’re spending this month’s Style with a few affordable suggestions you can use to winter proof your style!

BONOBOS | THE QUILTED JACKET

The tale of quilted clothing might not be a tale as old as time, but it does date back to the 17th century. Quilting was used in Europe, India, and the Far East as well. It was mostly used for bedding but at some point during its history someone figured that its insulating nature could be applied to clothing as well. Quilted jackets can be a Beaux’s best friend as the frigid temperatures of winter set in, which is why we’re spending a little time with Bonobos’ Quilted Jacket.  The advantage that quilted jackets have over regular jackets is that they’re lightweight, allow for a greater range of motion, and they texture to your look.

Make winter your bitch with this jacket’s donegal jersey fabric and polyfill filling! It comes with zipper entry pockets with oxidized zippers at its center opening, and is one hundred percent cotton heavyweight jersey. You know we’re always on the hunt for a bargain, which is why we’re beyond excited about this piece’s $148.00 price tag! You can couple your quilted jacket with a pair of dress pants, or make a casual style statement by coupling it with a pair of chinos. Remember that you don’t have to spend a grip on new clothes, as you can easily join your quilted jacket with a pair of jeans you already own!

H&M | THE MOCK TURTLENECK

Mock neck sweaters are a mood for those of us who want the style of a turtleneck without the commitment. Their thin and lightweight structures make them some of the seasons best base layers, and their comfortability is undeniable! This is precisely why we’re spending a little time with H&M’s Mock Turtleneck Sweater!  You’ll rarely find a miss fashion miss at H&M, and their ability to keep their prices low without sacrificing the quality of their clothing is what sets them apart from most retailers.

The retailer’s mock turtleneck sweater is certain a fashion find with its modal and cotton blend and ribbed mock neck. It’s long sleeved, comes in a variation of winter colors, and retails for a smooth $29.99!  Show off your styling game by pairing this piece with a pair of chinos (which go with all types of winter wear), and a refined, yet durable shoes. You can also consider sporting your mock turtleneck with a pair of jeans and a pair of casual boots as well. Regardless of whether you decide to dress your mock turtleneck up or down, you can rest comfortably in the knowledge that they will instantly spice up any look they’re a part of!

ASOS | MOSS LONDON SLIM BLAZER IN GINGHAM BOUCLE

Once upon a time blazers were reserved for formal occasions and wearing them to anything outside of that meant you were overdressed. First of all, there’s no such thing as being overdressed. Under dressed, yes, but overdressed? No. Blazers are capable of effecting a multitude of looks, and while it's often too hot to wear them during the summer, the cold of winter makes them some of the best things ever! The one thing that sets blazers apart from suit jackets is that they don’t come with matching pants. Such, you can turn wear a suit jacket as a blazer if you’d like, but you can’t wear a blazer as a suit jacket.

Now you didn’t think we’d get through this month’s Style without giving ASOS the attention it deserves, did you? You can’t be that new! This month we’re spending a little time with ASOS’ Moss London Slim Blazer in Gingham Boucle. Gingham, in case you were wondering, is a medium weighted type of plain woven fabric made from either dyed cotton or cotton-blend yarn. It can be made of carded, medium, or fine years where the coloring is on the warp yarns and always along the grain. Bouclé is both a yarn and fabric where the yarn is made from a length of loops of similar size that can range from tiny circlets to large curls. *Queue “the more you know” music*

This blazer comes equipped with a Gingham pattern, peak lapels, and features a two button opening as well. Its functional pockets are a plus, because we’re going to need somewhere to stash our keys, and its lined with an additional internal pocket as well. We can tuck our phones away there. One of the best things about this blazer is that is has a very sharp and slim fit, which means that silhouette of ours is certain to draw attention! It retails for a smooth $102.00, a price that ensures this piece will not only become, but remain a trusted winter style staple. Chinos, as earlier stated, go with just about anything, and this blazer is far from the exception to that rule. Pair this piece with a pair of complementary colored chinos to validate your seat at the table of stylish sophistication, or appropriately pair it with a pair of jeans. A blazer/jean combo can be a safety net for newbies, and can serve as a time saver in the event that we need to quickly create a look. Complete the look with a pair of black loafers, or any other shoe you feel suits your style.

We’re literally weeks away from what some would call a wintery hell. And while your friends in the south and on the west coast will undoubtedly NOT resist the urge to post reminders of the fact that it doesn’t get cold where they live, our hope is that the affected will at least be able to put some of our style suggestions to use as we prepare for the arrival of not summer!
